PREVALENCE AND RISK FACTORS OF DEPRESSIVE SYMPTOMS AMONG INSTITUTIONALIZED ELDERLY IN SABAH, MALAYSIA BORNEO

 The elderly population in Malaysia are multiplying, and older people's reliance on social services such as institutions has increased. Mental health problems especially depression is one of the main with institutionalized elderly. This study aims to determine prevalence associated risk factors among all three state-run Sabah. A multi-centred, cross-sectional was conducted residents Sabah (N=110). All that fulfil criteria were included through a self-administered set validated questionnaires measure perceived support, loneliness, depression. Statistical Package for Social Sciences by IBM (IBM SPSS) v25 used Chi-Square logistic regression analysis. depressive symptoms at 60.9%. independent male gender (OR=4.09, 95%CI=1.55, 10.79), poor status (OR=6.63, 95%CI=2.49, 17.65), loneliness (OR=6.12, 95%CI=2.02, 18.53). Depression prevalent Sabah, Malaysia. comprehensive mental screening program needs be implemented along adequate training staff handle issues elderly.
